The Best Class B Camper Vans (2027 Models)
Updated 2026-10-16 · ACamper RV Research
For most people, the best Class B is the Winnebago Travato. It's been the best-selling camper van in North America for years, built on a gas Ram ProMaster with lithium power. Used ones from 2017–2019 start around $55,000.
For off-road and four-season travel, the Winnebago Revel (Sprinter AWD diesel, 8.4 kWh lithium, hydronic heat) is the benchmark. The newer Grand Design Lineage VT is the best Ford Transit AWD option, with an under-floor A/C that keeps the roof clear.
Whatever you buy, look at the tank sizes. Most vans hold 18–35 gallons of fresh water, and several have a 5-gallon cassette toilet instead of a black tank.
How to choose a camper van
The chassis decides how it drives
Ram ProMaster is front-wheel drive with a gas V6, the widest interior, and the lowest price. Ford Transit offers AWD with a gas EcoBoost V6. Mercedes Sprinter comes with a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel and optional AWD; it's the most capable and the most expensive to buy and service.
Fixed bed vs. convertible
If you're 6 feet or taller, look at the bed length on the drawing. Twin beds that make a king, power-lift beds over a gear garage, and Murphy beds all trade daytime space against bed size. A pop-top adds a second bed for kids.
Tanks and toilet
Van tanks are tiny. A Travato carries 18 gallons of fresh water; a Revel carries 35. Several vans use a cassette toilet you empty by hand rather than a black tank. That suits some people and is a dealbreaker for others.
Power for A/C off the grid
Lithium batteries of 4–8 kWh with an inverter can run a roof A/C for a few hours. A second alternator recharges while you drive. If you want A/C overnight without hookups, you need a big lithium bank plus a generator or a lot of driving.
Everyday travelers
Gas, front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, and easier to service anywhere. These suit paved roads and campgrounds, with some boondocking.
Winnebago Travato (59K / 59G): Best overall
Travato is the van most first-time buyers end up comparing everything else against, and it has the deepest used market of any Class B. The 59K has two twin beds at the rear (about 26" × 74–80") with a wet bath behind them. The 59G has a rear power bed with storage under it instead. Both have lithium power, and Winnebago refreshed the interior and exterior for 2026.
Watch for: The tanks are small: 18 gallons fresh, 13 grey and 12 black. ProMasters are front-wheel drive, so they don't handle soft sand or snow well.

Winnebago Solis 59PX: Best for four people
The pop-top adds a 51" × 75" bed above the main 59" × 77" Murphy bed, so a family of four can travel in one van. It also has a wet bath, a full-height gear space at the rear, a 13,500 BTU A/C, and a generator. It's one of the least expensive ways into a Winnebago van.
Watch for: The black tank is just 4.5 gallons (a cassette-style setup), and the fridge is 3 cubic feet. The pop-top isn't insulated for cold nights.

Thor Motor Coach Sequence 20L: Best value new
It's usually the lowest-priced new van from a major builder. The 20L has a 74" × 80" sleeper sofa along the side, which is a full-length bed for tall people, plus a rear wet bath with a wardrobe and swivel cab chairs. Its sister, the Thor Tellaro 20L, uses the same platform with a slightly bigger fresh tank (27 gallons).
Watch for: You make the bed from the sofa every night. The A/C is 11,000 BTU, and the fresh tank is 22 gallons.

Adventure and four-season vans
These are AWD vans for dirt roads, snow and boondocking. They cost $50,000–$100,000 more than the everyday vans.
Winnebago Revel 44E: Best off-road van
The Revel is the van other off-road vans are measured against. It has on-demand AWD with hill-descent assist, an 8.4 kWh Lithionics battery with dual-alternator charging, and hydronic diesel heat. A 49" × 79" power-lift bed sits over a gear garage with L-track tie-downs, and the wet bath doubles as a gear room. The 35-gallon fresh tank is big for a van.
Watch for: It has a cassette toilet (5-gallon black tank). The bed is 49" wide, tight for two adults. The cheaper Revel Sport (2027 MSRP $208,804) has half the battery.

Grand Design Lineage Series VT: Best Ford Transit van
AWD is standard, and the A/C is a 20,000 BTU split unit under the floor, which leaves the roof for solar and keeps the van quieter. It has an 8.4 kWh battery, a 54" × 80" flip-up rear bed, an induction cooktop, and a 34-gallon fresh tank. An optional pop-top sleeps two more. Gas Transit service is easier to find than Mercedes diesel service.
Watch for: It's new for 2026, so there's no long-term record yet. There's no black tank listed, so ask how the toilet is set up.

Airstream Interstate 24GT: Best luxury van
This is a long-wheelbase Sprinter with rear lounge sofas that become a bed, a center bath and Airstream's finish quality. The 2027 version is AWD. Interstates hold value well, and the long-running model means a deep used market back to 2016.
Watch for: The price, and the tanks are still small (23 gallons fresh) for a 24-foot vehicle. Mercedes service visits can be slow to book in rural areas.

Airstream Rangeline 21PL: Best Airstream value
This is Airstream's ProMaster van. It has a full-size bed, heated tanks for cold-weather use, a 3.5 kWh lithium battery with a 3,000-watt inverter, and an optional roof tent for two more. Its 28-gallon fresh tank is above average for a ProMaster van.
Watch for: Dealers in our data are asking about MSRP, so there's less discounting than on Winnebago and Thor vans. The battery is smaller than in the AWD vans.

What trips up van buyers
New-van "from" prices
New Class B prices swing more than any other RV type. In our data, identical 2027 vans are listed anywhere from about half of MSRP to full MSRP depending on the dealer. Before you buy, compare the same model across several dealers. Our live counts link to every listing.
"Sleeps 4" in a van
A sleep count of four usually means a pop-top or roof tent. That second bed works for kids or summer trips, but it's rarely insulated for cold nights. Check whether the van you're looking at has the pop-top option installed.

FAQ
What is the best Class B camper van?
The Winnebago Travato for most buyers: proven, lithium-powered and easy to find used. The Winnebago Revel for off-road and cold-weather travel, and the Grand Design Lineage VT for a Ford Transit AWD van.
Is a Sprinter, Transit or ProMaster better for a camper van?
ProMaster is the widest inside and cheapest, with a gas V6 and front-wheel drive. Transit offers AWD and a gas EcoBoost V6 with easy service. Sprinter is the most capable off-road with AWD and a diesel engine, but it's the most expensive to buy and maintain.
How much does a Class B camper van cost?
New 2027 vans list from about $160,000 to $290,000 MSRP, but dealers often sell well below MSRP. Our listings show new ProMaster vans around $109,000–$140,000 and used Travatos from about $55,000.
Do Class B vans have bathrooms?
Most have a wet bath: a toilet and shower in the same small room. Some use a cassette toilet you empty by hand instead of a black tank, including the Winnebago Revel.
Can you live in a Class B van full-time?
Yes, but small tanks and a tight interior make it best for one person or a couple who spend most time outside. Many van full-timers choose a model with a large lithium bank, a fixed bed and the biggest fresh tank they can find.
How we researched this
We started from RV.com's 2026 Class B roundup and the most-listed 2026–2027 vans in the ACamper catalog.
