The Best Class A Motorhomes (2027 Models)

Updated 2026-10-16 · ACamper RV Research

For most first-time Class A buyers, a 30–36 foot gas coach on the Ford F-53 chassis is the sweet spot. Our top pick is the Newmar Bay Star 3114: Newmar build quality, a 72" × 80" king and nearly 6,000 lbs of cargo capacity in 32 feet. If you want something smaller, the Jayco Alante 29S (31 feet) is easier to park and costs less.

If you'll drive a lot or tow a heavy vehicle, a diesel pusher is quieter and stronger on grades. The Tiffin Allegro Red 33 AA is one of the most affordable routes into a Tiffin diesel: 35 feet, a Cummins L9 and a 72" × 80" king. Used ones start under $90,000.

If you're shopping Thor, the same coach is often sold under two names (Vegas and Axis, Hurricane and Windsport, Luminate and Indigo, A.C.E. and Resonate). Compare prices across both.

Gas or diesel, and what else matters

Gas (Ford F-53) or diesel pusher

Gas Class As use Ford's 7.3L V-8 on the F-53 chassis. They're cheaper to buy and maintain, but the engine is up front and loud, and they work hard on mountain grades. Diesel pushers put a Cummins engine at the back. They're quiet, have air suspension and air brakes, tow more and climb better, but cost much more to buy and service.

Length for where you'll go

Under about 33 feet fits most state and national park sites. 35–40 feet is the full-time sweet spot. Over 40 feet is mostly for RV resorts.

Cargo capacity (CCC)

Class As carry a lot of weight in their basement storage. Look for at least 3,000 lbs of cargo capacity in a gas coach, and remember water, passengers and fuel count against it.

Bed size

Gas Class As often use a 60" × 74" queen or a 66" × 75" "Olympic queen." A 72" × 80" king is common in diesels and higher-end gas coaches.

Gas Class A

All of these use Ford's 7.3L gas V-8. Lower price, simpler service, and gas stations everywhere.

Newmar Bay Star 3114: Best gas Class A

Newmar is known for some of the best build quality in motorhomes, and Bay Star is its gas line. The 3114 puts a 72" × 80" king in the rear, a 40" × 30" shower, a booth dinette and a 74" sofa into 32 feet. Its 5,950 lbs of cargo capacity is huge for a coach this size, and the A/Cs are heat pumps.

Watch for: It costs about $60,000–$100,000 more than other gas coaches of its size. There's one bathroom, and no half bath.

Jayco Alante 29S: Best for first-time owners

Camping World names Alante as one of the most approachable Class As. The 29S has a rear queen, a 30" × 36" shower, a 42" × 70" dinette and a 68" jack-knife sofa. Outside there's a kitchen and an entertainment center. It has two A/Cs (one with a heat pump), and 72 gallons of fresh water. Jayco's two-year warranty helps first-time owners.

Watch for: The queen is 60" × 74". There's one slide, so the living area is narrower than in a two-slide coach.

Fleetwood Bounder 33C: Best used value

Bounder is one of the longest-running gas Class A names, so parts, service know-how and used examples are everywhere. The 33C has a full-wall slide with a jack-knife sofa and dinette, a residential fridge, a fireplace, and a 66" × 75" Olympic queen. The 100-gallon fresh tank is the biggest of any gas coach here.

Watch for: The bed is an Olympic queen, between a queen and a king. Fleetwood's quality reputation has varied by year, so get an inspection on a used one.

Thor Motor Coach Vegas 24.1 / Axis 24.1: Best short Class A

At under 26 feet, it's a Class A that fits national park sites and drives like a large van. Twin 38" × 75" beds in the rear convert to a king, there's a 66" sofa bed in the slide, and the cab chairs swivel to face a coffee table. Thor sells the identical floorplan as the Axis 24.1, so compare both. Camping World's first-timer pick, Thor's Freedom Traveler A24, is a similar size on the same chassis.

Watch for: The shower is a 27" × 27" corner unit. It's built on the smaller E-Series chassis, so cargo capacity and tanks are limited.

Diesel pushers

A rear Cummins engine, air ride and air brakes. Quieter and more capable on grades and with a tow vehicle.

Tiffin Allegro Red 33 AA: Best entry diesel pusher

This is one of the shortest and least expensive Tiffin diesels, and an easy way into Tiffin's well-regarded build quality. It has a rear 72" × 80" king, a stacked washer/dryer, a residential fridge, an air-coil sofa bed and a booth dinette, plus an optional bedroom egress door. There are 90 gallons of fresh water and heat-pump A/Cs.

Watch for: New prices are high; most buyers will be shopping used. The shower is 34.5" square.

Tiffin Phaeton 40 IH: Best full-time diesel

Phaeton is Tiffin's mid-luxury diesel, built on its own PowerGlide chassis. The 40 IH has 100 gallons of fresh water and 100 of grey, a 25 cubic foot fridge, and heat-pump A/Cs. It's a popular full-time coach.

Watch for: At 41 feet, it rules out many park campgrounds. Diesel service needs a truck shop or Tiffin service center.

Newmar Ventana 4037: Best bath-and-a-half diesel

It has a full rear bath with a 50" × 30" shower and a second half bath mid-coach, so guests don't walk through your bedroom. There's a 72" × 80" king, washer/dryer prep, a booth dinette, an 87" hide-a-bed sofa and a jack-knife sofa. Its cargo capacity of 9,200 lbs is enormous, and the fresh tank holds 105 gallons.

Watch for: New prices are near $450,000. Used ones from 2014–2019 are the value buy.

Things that trip up Class A shoppers

Thor twin brands

In the 2027 spec data, Thor sells matching floorplan codes under two names: Vegas = Axis, Hurricane = Windsport, Luminate = Indigo, A.C.E. = Resonate (A.C.E. dropped the 29D and 29G for 2027; Resonate kept them). If you're shopping one, search for the other too. Dealers often price them differently.

Newmar Bay Star is a gas coach

Newmar is best known for diesel pushers, but Bay Star is built on the gas Ford F-53 with the 7.3L V-8. Newmar's diesel lines include Ventana and Dutch Star.

FAQ

What is the best Class A motorhome?

For most buyers, a 30–36 foot gas coach like the Newmar Bay Star 3114 or Jayco Alante 29S. For heavy travel and towing, a diesel pusher like the Tiffin Allegro Red 33 AA or Newmar Ventana 4037.

Is a gas or diesel Class A better?

Gas is cheaper to buy and maintain and fine for most trips. Diesel pushers are quieter, ride on air suspension, tow more and handle mountains better, but cost much more and need specialized service.

What is the best Class A for beginners?

A shorter gas coach is easiest to learn on. The Jayco Alante 29S (31 feet) and Thor Vegas 24.1 (under 26 feet) are both good first motorhomes. Renting one for a weekend first is worth it.

How much does a Class A motorhome cost?

New gas Class As sell for about $100,000–$250,000 at dealers. New diesel pushers start around $300,000 and go past $750,000. Used gas coaches start around $40,000, and used entry-level diesels under $90,000.

How we researched this

We started from Camping World's Class A brand guide, RV Trader's 2026 coverage of popular gas coaches, and the most-listed 2027 Class A floorplans in our catalog.

We read beds and layouts off each manufacturer drawing and took chassis, engines and tanks from the 2026–2027 spec sheets. We compared Thor floorplan codes across brands to find the twins.

Prices and counts come from ACamper's crawl of dealer inventory through Oct 14, 2026.
